Welcome to Quill. This Privacy Policy explains how Westlake Labs LLC ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and protects your personal information when you use the Quill iOS application ("the App"). Quill is a faith and prayer app designed to support your spiritual journey through Bible study, devotionals, sermon recordings, and personalized insights.
By using Quill, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this policy. We are committed to protecting your privacy and handling your data with care and transparency.
Information We Collect
We collect the following categories of information to provide and improve the Quill experience:

How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect for the following purposes:
- Provide and maintain the App — delivering core features such as Bible reading, note-taking, audio recording, and AI-generated devotionals.
- Personalize your experience — tailoring devotional content and recommendations based on your reading history, preferences, mood, faith journey, and personal goals.
- Generate AI content — sending prompts and relevant personalization context (such as selected Bible verses, mood, faith journey, goals, and notes) to third-party AI providers to create devotionals, Bible study insights, and chat responses on your behalf.
- Improve the App — analyzing anonymized usage patterns and service-level metrics to understand how features are used and where we can improve.
- Communicate with you — responding to support requests and notifying you of important changes to the App or this policy.
- Ensure security — protecting your account and data from unauthorized access.
AI-Generated Content
Quill uses third-party AI services to generate devotionals, Bible study insights, and chat responses. When you request AI-generated content, your prompts and relevant context — including selected Bible verses, mood preferences, faith journey, goals, and related notes — are sent to our AI providers for processing. User profile and mood data may be shared with AI providers to personalize the content generated for you.
Your data is not used to train AI models. We contractually require our AI providers not to use your data for model training purposes. AI-generated content is created solely for your personal use within the App.
AI chat conversations (such as note-based chats and devotional chats) are stored in our cloud infrastructure and retained until you delete them or request account deletion.
Audio Recordings & Transcription
Audio recordings of sermons and Bible studies are uploaded to and stored securely in our cloud storage infrastructure and are accessible only to your account. You may delete any recording at any time from within the App.
Transcription may occur on-device using local speech recognition technology or via secure server-side processing, depending on your device capabilities and settings. When on-device transcription is used, your audio data is processed locally and is not sent to external servers for transcription.
YouTube Transcript Processing
When you use Quill's YouTube video features, we use third-party transcript retrieval services to obtain video transcripts on your behalf. These services receive the YouTube video ID you provide. Retrieved transcripts may be cached in our cloud infrastructure for up to 30 days to improve performance.
Third-Party Services
We use the following categories of third-party services to operate and improve Quill:
Cloud Infrastructure Providers
Provide our cloud database, user authentication, and file storage. Your account information, notes, reading data, audio recordings, and AI chat conversations are stored on our cloud infrastructure.
Third-Party AI Services
Power AI content generation. User prompts and personalization context are processed through AI provider APIs to generate devotionals, chat responses, and Bible study insights. We contractually require our AI providers not to use your data for model training.
Authentication Providers
We support Sign In with Apple and Google Sign In for account authentication. When you use these services, the authentication provider receives the data necessary to verify your identity in accordance with their respective privacy policies.
Apple
Handles all subscription billing through the App Store. We do not receive or store your payment details.
Analytics Services
We use analytics services to collect anonymized, non-personally-identifiable usage data to understand feature usage patterns. This data is not linked to your identity.
Subscription & Paywall Services
We use third-party services to manage paywall presentation and subscription experiences within the App. These services may receive limited user attributes (such as first name and subscription status) for paywall personalization.
Each third-party service operates under its own privacy policy. We maintain a list of our current sub-processors, which is available upon request by contacting support@quillbible.com.
Data Storage & Security
Your data is stored securely using cloud infrastructure with encryption in transit and at rest. We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your personal information against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction.
While we strive to protect your information, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security but are committed to maintaining industry-standard protections.
Data Retention
We retain your data as follows:
- Account data — retained for as long as your account is active, or until you request deletion.
- Notes, journals, and Bible reading data — retained until you delete them or request account deletion.
- Audio recordings — retained until you delete them from within the App or request account deletion.
- AI chat conversations — retained until you delete them or request account deletion.
- YouTube transcript cache — retained for up to 30 days.
- Service usage logs — API usage metrics (such as call frequency and token counts) may be retained for up to 12 months for service quality and operational purposes, after which they are deleted or anonymized.
- Analytics data — anonymized data may be retained in aggregate form for product improvement purposes.
Your Rights & Choices
You have the following rights regarding your personal information:
- Access — You may request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Deletion — You may request deletion of your account and associated data by contacting us at support@quillbible.com.
- Correction — You may update your account information within the App or by contacting support.
- Audio deletion — You may delete any audio recording at any time directly within the App.
- Withdraw consent — You may stop using optional features (such as mood preferences or AI-generated content) at any time.
Please note that Quill does not currently offer an automated data export or portability feature. If you would like a copy of your data, please contact us and we will provide it in a reasonable format.

No Sale of Personal Data
We do not sell your personal information to third parties. Your data is used solely to provide and improve the Quill experience as described in this policy.
California Residents — CCPA Rights
If you are a California resident, you have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA):
- Right to Know — You may request disclosure of the categories and specific pieces of personal information we have collected about you.
- Right to Delete — You may request that we delete your personal information, subject to certain exceptions.
- Right to Non-Discrimination — We will not discriminate against you for exercising any of your CCPA rights.
- Right to Opt-Out of Sale — We do not sell personal information, so no opt-out is required.

Children's Privacy
Quill is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that we have inadvertently collected personal information from a child under 13, we will take steps to delete such information promptly.
If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at support@quillbible.com so we can take appropriate action.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, technology, or legal requirements. When we make material changes, we will notify you by updating the effective date at the top of this policy and, where appropriate, providing notice within the App.
